Certified Scrum Professional

Certified Scrum Professional

We are delighted to announce that our Commercial Director, Aaron, has successfully completed and achieved his Certified Scrum Professional accreditation from the Scrum Alliance. This will now be presented proudly in our Harrogate office and sit alongside his Certified ScrumMaster, Product Owner and Advanced Scrum Master accreditations.

Aaron had to go the extra mile to earn his Certified Scrum Professional award (CSP) and it shows that he is committed to continuous improvement. The coursework and dedication Aaron needed to earn the CSP sharpened his skills and helped him become a better practitioner of Scrum. Aaron is now planning on achieving his Certified Scrum Coach accreditation.

Aaron joins Nick as the other Certified Scrum Professional here at McKenna Consultants.

Well done Aaron!

What Is the Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)?

The Certified Scrum Professional is one of the highest credentials offered by the Scrum Alliance. Unlike the foundational CSM (Certified ScrumMaster) or CSPO (Certified Scrum Product Owner) certifications, the CSP requires demonstrated, sustained commitment to Scrum practice. Candidates must hold an existing Scrum Alliance certification, accumulate Scrum Education Units through continued learning, and demonstrate practical experience applying Scrum in real-world settings.

Achieving the CSP reflects not just theoretical knowledge but a deep, practical understanding of how Scrum works — and where it needs adapting — across different team structures, industries, and organisational contexts. For a primer on Scrum fundamentals, see our post on what a sprint timebox is for.

Why Certifications Matter (and Where They Don't)

We are honest about certifications: they are evidence of investment in learning, not a guarantee of competence. What matters far more is what a coach or consultant has delivered in practice. That said, maintaining a rigorous programme of continued professional development ensures that our advice stays current and grounded in the latest thinking.

Aaron's certification journey — from CSM through CSPO, Advanced Scrum Master, and now CSP — reflects a deliberate, progressive investment in Scrum mastery. Each stage built on practical experience gained through coaching teams across healthcare, financial services, retail, and the public sector. Aaron later went on to achieve the Certified Scrum Coach credential. For more on the distinction between coaching and mentoring, read our guide on agile coaching vs mentoring.
